Process To Counseling With Shannon Gonter, LPCC

How will I know you are the right counselor for me?

Take a look around my site, and trust your gut feelings!

In order to give you a better idea, let’s chat! Feel free to contact me for a free 15-minute phone consultation to see if I would be the best counselor to assist you in reaching your goals.

During the free consultation call we will review logistical items about my practice such as location, fees, and session availability to ensure that it is all convenient and works for you. Also. I will use this time to learn a little bit more about you and your presenting concern that is leading you to counseling. I also welcome prospective clients to use this time to ask me questions about counseling, my therapeutic style or anything else that you have questions about.

These consultations are helpful for both you, and I and allow us to briefly get to know each other and collaboratively decide if making the initial appointment is the right decision for you.

If we decide to schedule an intake, in your first session I will provide you with some sense of what counseling will involve and will be asking you more than the usual amount of questions in order to collect significant history and information on your presenting issue. I will use the first three sessions to evaluate and ensure that we will be an appropriate match. Throughout these initial sessions we will continue to build rapport and jointly decide to work together. In all following sessions we will collaboratively work on reaching your set goals.

I specialize in working with men and young adults. I am passionate about my career and want to work with you to create positive change. I also strive to create a counseling environment where men and young adults can relate, feel heard, and find new solutions to their negative patterns. Some issues that I most commonly work with are stress, relationship issues, difficulty saying “no” to others, difficulties recognizing emotions and emotionally connecting to others, anger, and intimacy issues, among others.
